Learning Zone ~ Word Processing
What is a word processor?
A word processor is like a typewriter, but it can do many more things. You can format the text, e.g. change the colour or style of the letters. You can move the text from one place to another on the page. You can copy & paste chunks of text into another document or program. You can also add pictures, or diagrams to your document.
This means that as well as writing letters, & formal documents, such as minutes of meetings, you can also do things that are a lot more fun. The sort of things you might like to use word processing for include making:
- Birthday cards
- A poster for a coffee morning
- Calendars
- A Newsletter for a club
ACE IT have produced some basic help sheets to get you started with word processing, you can open these on your computer screen, or you can print them off to have them beside you for reference as you work.
If you are reading this at home, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader
installed on your computer. You can download this for free following the
online instructions carefully.
Depending on the software you are using, you can access WordArt & ClipArt from the Drawing toolbar within yo`ur word processing program, which can be found at the bottom of the Word screen or go to View >> Toolbars >> Drawing
There is also a link to ClipArt on the MicroSoft web site.
If you would like to take a more in depth look at Word Processing, you can follow the links to the online tutorials & more advanced help sheets.
